Week of tests

Tests, tests and more tests...On Monday, we did the reading project, answering some questions about the book "Danny Dark" of Margaret Johnson. It's about a woman who owns a hair salon and has to fight to keep it open because there is big business being built in front of hers. The rival wanted to buy her salon and turn it into a car park. They sent Danny Dark, a man who worked for them, to make the propose. The owner of the hair salon,Sally, didin't to sell it and kept resisting till the end. However she fell in love with Danny, so make decisions became harder. Like a true lover, Danny left his job and as a good romantic story, the book ended with a kiss.
After the reading project, we did the progress check of Unit 5, called "Ritual". It was very simple to be done and I think I was well prepared for it.
On Wednesday, we took an exam at school, and we couldn't go to English class...I think they should change the date of this test, because it is aways held on Wednesdays, in the afternoon, what impedes us to go to CCBEU. However, the school decides what's better.Even though it's just for them.
That's it...A normal and boring week as well...¬-¬
Let's pray my life gets more interesting next week =)

My classes this week at CCBEU

Hey again =)
This week I couldn't attend to all my classes at CCBEU because of school tests...I had to study a lot and going to English class was not a good opition on Wednesday, so the post today will be shorter...
On Monday we did a listening activity about different kinds of wedding around the world. I find it important to know about other cultures and learn to respect them, even if you can not understand why do people believe in that rituals. We all have our ways to bring good luck and happiness to the couple that is getting married.
One of the most interesting ritual is the one they do in Spain: the groom gives gold coins to tha bride during the ceremony. It means that the groom and the bride will share everything. Isn't that nice? Even though it might not happen  through their life together...
After this activity we did a reading exercise to use verbs plus to-infinitive or gerund. The grammar part was a little confusing in tha beggining bur the reading was very funny. We had to complete a couple thoughts while they were at a restaurant. The woman was concerned about the kids and housework and the man was thinking about when they first met, what did he feel and all that romantic stuff...
Well, I'll have a progress check tomorrow and reading project...I must be prepared...
That's all...

My week at CCBEU

29,May 2011
Well, let's get down to this first post ...My teacher at CCBEU(Centro Cultural Brasil Estados Unidos), Gilmar, gave us the chance to express our ideas and opinions here in a blog. He chose the group of students that I belong to and asked us if we could participate of this project. I found it very interesting and I decided to start posting weekly here, talking about my classes and my opinions about them.
I really like learning English and I think the blog is a good idea to improve my written communication skills. It is a language that have aways fascinated me and I would love to share my week at English school in this website!

On the first class of this week, on Monday, the first thing we did was a song activity. Weeks ago I was thinking to ask the teacher a song and I felt so happy when he gave us the lyrics and announced the activity =)
It was like he had read my mind! The song was wonderful as usual: Gilmar aways brings us beautiful and inspiring songs...I'm addicted to good music, so the day started very well for me...The song  name is "someone like you" and the singer is Adele, a british woman, that actually sings with a magical voice *-*
Here is the video of the song at youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OZtUjFJvYkA

This week we had another nice listening activity: a girl was talking abou how her father took care of his car. That sounded perfectly real for me because I have some car lovers in my family. They treat them like babies! And they do have another characteristic in common: they like old cars...¬-¬. At grammar section we learned how to talk about repeated actions (like rituals) using the verb to be future forms and to express past actions and states with "used to" sentences.

All in all, that was my week at CCBEU. I hope you'll enjoy my post.
